Day 10 - Organize An Ice Cream Social

Oh what fun it would be to gather all the kids for an ice cream social! Especially on a hot day, this would cool everyone down and have some fun at the same time!

What you'll need:

Variety Of Ice Cream
Ice Cream Toppings
Ice Cream Cones
Ice Cream Spoons

Play some games such as pin the cherry on the ice cream cone/sundae.

For older children and adults - match Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream flavors to their names:

Banana & Strawberry Ice Creams with Walnuts, Fudge Chunks & a Fudge Swirl = Banana Split

Cherry Ice Cream with Cherries & Fudge Flakes = Cherry Garcia

Peanut Butter Ice Cream with Peanut Butter Cups = Peanut Butter Cup

and so on. You can find all the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream flavors HERE.

Day 9 - Have A Back Yard Treasure Hunt

Plan a treasure hunt for your kids. Of course you'll need a real treasure map, which you can make yourself!

Materials (paper, pen, used tea bag, paper towel, cooking oil)

  1. Think about the map you want to make. It could be a path that uses landmarks, or it could be a verse that includes directions and distances. Make sure the start is easy to find, and the treasure is hidden somewhere where it won't be disturbed until the treasure hunters find it.
  2. Use a piece of white paper and draw your map. Include the compass points and any verse or written clues needed by the hunters to find the treasure. Different colored inks work fine, some pencil crayons will work too.
  3. Tear the edges off the page, to make it look like a treasure map.
  4. When you map is finished, wipe the wet tea bag over both sides of the page. The page will turn a light brown color. The page should be soaked through by the time you are finished.
  5. Crumple it into a ball and let dry over night.
  6. Gently open the map, and wipe both sides with cooking oil. Blot off the excess with paper towels.

Day 8 - Go Berry Picking

Through the summer there are a lot of different kind of berries you and your child(ren) can pick. Visit a local farm that allows you to pick your own berries, and let the kids fill a basket. Make sure you tell them how you know that the berries are ripe, so you don’t get a basket full of sour green berries.

Day 6 - Play Kick The Can

Kick the Can is kind of like hide-and-seek. The “finder” has to guard the can, and counts to 20 while the others hide. When the “finder” leaves the can to go look for the others, the “hiders” have to try to kick the can before being caught. If the “finder ” finds everyone before the can is kicked, he wins.

50 Fun Ideas For Your Kids To Do This Summer - Day 1

Share
For the next 50 days I will be posting fun summer ideas you
can do with your kids while they're on summer vacation!

Day 1 - Put Together A Sandbox For The Kids To Play In

Do you have a sandbox in the back yard? If not, you can, and it won't break the bank. If you have an old plastic kiddie pool or you may be able to buy a used one really cheap at a yard sale. Just put it in the back yard and fill it up with some sand. I actually have purchase color sand, blue that is for my boys, just to be different. Obviously, regular brown sand is fine. The children will spend hours playing in it.

Need some sand toys, Amazon offer's some great sand toys, but if money is tight, use old silverware, bowls, pots or anything around the house that the kids could use. You'd be surprise how much fun they can have with regular house hold items.

I Hate Bugs!

Share

My son hates bugs, and he tell's me this all the time. Especially when a fly flies by. Of course it don't help when mommy don't like certain kind of bugs too, like spiders, ack, I get the weeby geebies when I think of them. So how am I suppose to help my son overcome his fear of bugs when I have my own phobias of them.

Here are some things to try...

1. Do some research online or at your library about bugs. Read together why the bugs are here and what their purpose is.

2. Buy or borrow some children books that are about bugs. Some of my son's favorites are the Ten Little Ladybugs and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

3. Show that you're not scared of the bugs and go to Mr. Spider and say "hello" to it. Then encourage you child to say "hello" too. Then explain that Mr. Spider is here to eat the fly's and mosquito's, and the bee's make honey for us to eat!

4. Purchase a bug house. This way a child can learn and explore any bug you both choose.

5. Purchase a set of bug cards or find some cute bug images online and print them out & laminate them. Then go on a bug hunt. See how many bugs you can find together.

It may take some time, but hopefully bugs won't be so scary after learning and exploring about them!

A Day With Papa!

Share

Today our family spent the day with Papa P, Adam's dad. The boys get to see him about once every month or two. But I know this month we'll be seeing him twice, today and on Father's day. Anyway, when Papa showed up at our house the boys all piled up on him, and of course he got just as carried away as the boys did. After about a half an hour of playing and giggling we all got in to my mom's van (thank you mom for letting us borrow it), and headed off for lunch at Friendly's!

Papa helping Tristan on the Friendly's activity pad

After Friendly's we went to the miniature golf course. Even the younger boys had fun, and they didn't even played.

Papa pushing Brayden & Jayden in their stroller, of course this only lasted a few minutes.

Papa, Daddy & Tristan played one round of miniature golf. 18 holes was enough for all of us, but everyone had a blast! We've decided to add this to our summer fun box! My muscles hurt from pushing the two younger boys. There were a lot of hills and I was pushing at least 60 pounds not counting the stroller.

Daddy, Tristan & Papa hitting some balls!

Luckily, we don't keep score, they're just playing to have fun. Though Daddy did get 2 hole in one's, does that mean he wins? After we were all done we got into the van and headed home. 2 out of the 3 boys feel asleep, yup, the younger two. What a great day!

The three amigo's after they got done playing golf.
This picture will definitely go in the family album!
